Dr. Naresh Shanmugan is a Senior Consultant in Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition and has played a key role in establishing the Comprehensive Paediatric Liver Transplant programme at Global Health City. He was trained at Paediatric liver & GI unit at Kings College Hospital, London, one of the world's largest Paediatric Liver Transplant center. He moved to Global Health City, Chennai, to support the work of Prof. Mohamed Rela by setting up Paediatric Liver & GI services and Paediatric Intensive care unit. Within 20 months of establishment, more than 50 children underwent Liver Transplantation with success rates comparable to leading centres in world. His day's work includes assessment and management of Paediatric Liver Transplant patients, outpatient and inpatient management of Complex Paediatric Liver, Gastro amd Metabolic cases. He also trains the Paediatricians and Dieticians in the field of Advanced Paediatric Nutrition.
Dr. Naresh was a part of the team that performed South Asia's first Paediatric Auxiliary Liver Transplant on a 2 year old Omani Girl. He has treated children from various parts of the world including Middle East, Sri Lanka, Nauru etc.
He actively publishes articles in International and National journals. He has also authored 2 chapters in "Acute Liver Failure in Neonates and Children" and "Nutrition in Paediatric Liver Diseases". Academically oriented he offers workshops on medical writing / Paediatric Liver workshops / MRCPCH training courses.
