Advanced Heart, Lung & Vascular Institute

Accomplishments

The Heart Institute holds the distinction of performing over 18,000 radial procedures, one of the highest humbers. The Heart Institute also performed one of the first heart transplants and India’s first combined heart and kidney transplant.

Radial Approach to Coronary Procedures

Global Hospitals is one of the few hospitals in India to have almost completely adopted the radial approach to perform various coronary invasive procedures. This approach calls for guiding pre shaped catheters to the relevant coronary artery through the radial artery located in the wrist.

The radial access option has an advantage over the conventional femoral access approach owing to the relative advantages it provides in managing patients. The approach cuts down the chances of certain common post–procedure complications, even in patients with non-conducive conditions. Importantly, the radial approach happens to be the most beneficial to the patient in terms of reduced pain, discomfort, hospital cost and of course a drastically reduced incidence of complications.

The Cardiology team has expertise in Complex PTCA procedures like LMCA stenting, Chronic Total Occlusions (CTO), Bifurcation Lesions, Primary & Rescue Angioplasties, Small Vessel & Tortuous Lesions, Ostial Lesions. The Complex Angioplasty & CTO (CACTO) unit has the distinction of conducting more than 20,000 transradial procedures and it has released a book “Radial Pearls” with guidelines on angioplasties. CACTO also conducts annual radial procedures like workshops on complex PTCA’s with distinguished International & National delegates.
