Advanced Heart, Lung & Vascular Institute

Technology

New technology helps provide faster and more accurate diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. State-of-the-art technology is just one piece of Global Hospital’s entire program that represents a commitment to the prevention, treatment, and cure of heart disease. Cardiologists at the Heart Institute are adept at working with the latest technology.

The new technologies used are:

  • Intravascular Ultrasound - Fractional Flow Reserve (IVUS-FFR) – A medical imaging methodology using a specially designed catheter with a miniaturized ultrasound probe attached to the distal end of the catheter. Fractional Flow Reserve, or FFR, is a guide wire-based procedure that can accurately measure blood pressure and flow through a specific part of the coronary artery.

  • Angiogram - An angiogram is an X-ray that uses a special dye and camera (fluoroscopy) to take pictures of the blood flow in an artery or a vein (such as the vena cava).
