Overview

Interventional Radiologists use minimally invasive techniques to treat many conditions that once required an operation. This highly specialized practice uses tiny catheters and miniature instruments threaded through the body's network of arteries, veins or other tubular structures, allowing physicians to perform a variety of complex diagnostic and interventional procedures related to the vascular system, lymphatic system, biliary system and kidneys.

Advantages of Interventional Radiology Procedures:

The risks of interventional radiology procedures are far lower than the risks of open surgery.

  • Most procedures can be performed on an outpatient basis or require only a short Hospital stay
  • General anesthesia is usually not required
  • Risk, pain and recovery time are often significantly reduced
  • Procedures can be less expensive than surgery or other alternatives
